Council congratulates Nayte

THE Derwent Valley Council has recognised the performance of local basketballer Nayte Ackerley who put the region on the world map at the recent world games.

The 16-year-old brought home gold from the games held in Germany last month.

At the commencement of the Derwent Valley Council meeting late last month, Mayor Michelle Dracoulis singled out Nayte for congratulations for his sporting achievement.

“I would like to offer my congratulations to Nayte Ackerley who was part of the Australian team who brought home gold….well done,’’ Mayor Michelle Dracoulis said at the council meeting.

The gesture was applauded by all those in the gallery.

The St Virgils year 11 student travelled to Germany with his dad Wayne to take part in the competition.

Nayte scored two goals (four points) against the US in what was a thumping of 30-3 win for Australia.

Nayte was the second youngest player on the team.
