AFTER being the mainstay of the Northern Midlands and Meander Valley since 2017, the acclaimed Tasmania Chamber Music Festival will make Hobart and New Norfolk its home for 2023.
Launched last week, the bou- tique festival is set to come south in October for the first time, bringing with it a fresh look and new venues which will thrill local audiences as well as entice the festival’s strong interstate following to again come to Tasmania.
This year’s three-day festi- val will take place at Valley Field in the Derwent Valley, the iconic Agrarian Kitchen in New Norfolk, Hobart’s St David’s Cathedral, Govern- ment House and Hobart Town Hall.
The program will see performances by the young Orava Quartet, pianist Stefan Cassomenos, internationally renowned tenor Steve Davilsim, the Song Company, recorder player Genevieve Lacey and concert accordionist James Crabb.
TCMF Director Allanah Dopson said it was exciting to be able to bring such a diverse and talented line-up of musicians to the south of Tasmania for this year’s event.
“In 2020 and 2021, we made the difficult decision to call the festival off but we vowed to return more special than ever in 2022 and then bring the festival south for 2023,” Ms Dopson said.
“The magic of the festival lies in intimate performances held in stunning, character filled venues, meaning we can only sell a limited number of festival passes, but for the bigger venues such as St David’s Cathedral and Town Hall we will be able to sell individual tickets.”
Ms Dopson said each year the festival passes sold out early and she anticipated this year would be no different.
“Since our first festival in 2017, the demand for this type of festival in Tasmania has been humbling, selling out each year and drawing visi- tors from across the mainland and further abroad,” Ms Dop- son said.
“With such a new experience here in the south of the state, we’ re expecting demand to be particularly high this year and I would encourage every- one to get in quickly to avoid disappointment.”
