Lions bid to save the day

YOU may have heard that Lions bid to save the day. Derwent Valley Council will not be holding it’s Australia Day barbecue at The Esplanade on January 26, 2023.

Our club is proposing that local community groups, businesses and service clubs work together to hold a free Australia Day Family Fun Event at The Esplanade.

The day would involve families enjoying a picnic lunch and local groups running activities.

Would you or your organisation like to organise a thong-throwing competition? What about egg and spoon races? A game of cricket? Volleyball? Tug of war?

Organisations and clubs might run one or two kids’ and family activities – sporting clubs could organise activities around their sport. The event will be alcohol free and smoke free.

The good news is that there are a number of organisations who have already put up their hands. A colour run is definite and will be organised by Communities for Children.

If you are interested in running an activity on Australia Day, we will be holding a get together tonight at 7pm (Wednesday, December 14) at the Lions Club rooms to discuss possibilities, activities and contributions to the day.

If you can’t make it to the meeting and you would like to contribute to the family fun on January 26, just call Kerry Kievit on 0409 792 007.
