IN the U/13’s, New Norfolk had a good first-up win over Gretna at Gretna. After winning the toss and
sending the home team into bat, Gretna made 5/89 from its 30 overs. Captain Cooper Gleeson made a
well put together 15 not out from 37 balls with two nice fours. The Stott brothers did very well and showed great determination. Reuben making 11 not out from 41 deliveries and Hudson also 11 not out from 36 in what were a great examples of patience.
Ryan Jones dug his heels in with 3 not out (35). Xabia Barrington in his first game made 3 (7) while Lucas
Jones made 2 (24) and James Conley 2 (8). Wicket takers for the young Redcaps were captain Angus Fraser who bowled well taking 2-16 (4).
IN the U/15’s, New Norfolk made it a double with a comfortable 152-run win over Gretna at Gretna. Batting first, the Redcaps hit up the commanding score of 8/227 from its 40 overs. Star of the show – and the day – was Tyson Smith who recorded an excellent run-a-ball 66. Smith, whose previous highest score was 20, smacked six fours and three sixes in a great innings. Captain Bobby Nossiter took over where he left off last season making a very handy 47 from just 59 deliveries including five well-directed fours.
With the ball for New Norfolk, the day belonged to Tyron Smith who after an excellent effort with the Kookaburra finished with the terrific figures of 5-35 from four overs, what a big day it was for Smith! A great first up win to New Norfolk. After being at the ground for both matches, it was great to see all the junior player and parents and family members at the cricket and or helping out both teams. Congratulations to both clubs in what will assist the game of cricket in a big way into the future.
