New homes for chooks

THE Poultry Amnesty held late last month has been deemed a “crowing success,’’ with 86 animals being surrendered by the community. More than two-thirds of surrendered birds were roosters. At the end of the event all of the surrendered roosters and hens were rehoused with no euthanasia necessary.

Council thanked the Southern Tasmanian Poultry Club, especially their Secretary Julie Devlyn, for initiating the amnesty and working closely with Derwent Valley Council to hold the event.
