Luxury cabins go ahead

A LUXURY five-star holiday retreat in the hills overlooking New Norfolk has been approved by the Derwent Valley Council.

The project on Poulters and Glebe Road New Norfolk, includes 30 holiday cabins, a restaurant and recreation facilities. It is part of the $500 million The Mills project.

Mayor Michelle Dracoulis said the development was an important step towards recognising the Derwent Valley as a key destination in Southern Tasmania. “The accommodation units will provide additional options for tourists, and the attached high-quality facilities will enhance the facilities available as well as provide employment opportunities for Derwent Valley locals,’’ Mrs Dracoulis said.

Noble Ventures Director Daniel Noble said: “Whether it’s world-class food and beverages, stunning natural scenery or intriguing history, the Valley has something for everyone and we’re delighted to help more people experience it with this new project. “The retreat will also complement our four-star, 100-room hotel planned closer to the town centre.’’

The Mills masterplan includes more than 700 homes, with 545 residential and 186 retirement living homes. Plans for the community precinct include a private hospital, a growers and makers commercial co-op precinct, a childcare centre Proposed visitor centre for new retreat and a community park.
